SPECIFICATION GUIDE

Hand Stretch Film vs Machine Stretch Film

Start with the wrapping workflow and a measurable trial. Hand and machine films need compatible rolls, settings and load checks, not just a matching thickness.

Describe the job before comparing rolls

List the pallet sizes, load shapes, daily volume and wrapping method currently used. Separate stable, regular cartons from loads with protrusions or changing shapes. Record who applies the film and any common break or handling issue. Machine wrapping can repeat a defined program, while manual application depends on the operator's process. Neither label by itself proves that a wrapped load is suitable for its transport route.

For hand film, document the working format

Record width, usable length, net film weight, core dimensions and dispenser type. Ask operators to describe the wrap pattern and any difficulty reaching the bottom or top of the load. Agree safe work practices locally; film purchasing should not require an operator to use an unsafe technique. When comparing samples, record how many loads were wrapped and whether different operators produced materially different results.

For machine film, identify the equipment

Provide the wrapper make and model, carriage type, pre-stretch setting, maximum roll weight, core dimensions and allowed roll diameter. Record the program used for each load family. A film nominally intended for machines is not automatically compatible with every carriage or setting. Obtain equipment guidance before changing operating limits and retain the approved program with the film trial record.

Measure consumption and the result together

Weigh the roll before and after wrapping a known number of comparable pallets on the same basis. Film used per pallet equals film consumed divided by pallets wrapped. Keep starts, breaks and discarded material in the record. Also review load-to-pallet attachment, loose tails and movement during the agreed handling evaluation. Consumption alone cannot show that a change maintained the required load containment.

Build an honest cost comparison

Compare film cost per accepted wrapped pallet, not only price per roll. Keep net film weight distinct from core and packaging weight. Record labor time, machine costs or rework separately if your business includes them in the comparison; do not assume a universal saving from switching methods. If one candidate needs extra wraps to pass the agreed trial, include those wraps in its consumption figure.

Submit a complete but practical enquiry

Use the worksheet to share wrapping method, current roll label, equipment details, load photos, quantity and destination. Leave unknown fields clearly marked. Ask for a suitable sample plan, agreed roll dimensions and commercial terms before ordering. If you are changing both the film and the wrapping method, plan a new trial rather than treating the existing film approval as transferable.
